THIS SITE IS DEDICATED TO THE HUNDREDS OF RADIO OFFICERS WHO WORKED AT PORTISHEAD RADIO - THEY SERVED WITH PRIDE.
The receiving site at Highbridge, Somerset, circa 1948. The masts disappeared around 1983, and the foreground is now covered with houses. The radio station site is now gone and has been replaced by a housing estate named 'Mulholland Park'. A sad end to a once-busy site. The control room with a metal map of the world on which regular vessels were plotted. An operating point in the early 1950s

E-mail gka@btinternet.com to reserve your place. GKA BACK ON THE AIR?? Well, not quite - but if you take a listen on the amateur bands during May 2010, you may hear callsign GB10GKA - commemorating 10 years since the station closed. It will be manned exclusively by ex-GKA staff and will predominantly be on HF w/t - however some VHF 2m coverage may be possible from the old station site. More news in due course.
