Portishead Radio, Portishead Radio, get me my girl on the line......

What has music to do with a Coast Radio Station?

Actually quite a great deal - considering that Portishead Radio had a song written about it, and included on a top-selling LP!

The LP in question is 'Waves' by Mike Batt, issued in early 1980. At the time, Mike was sailing around the world on his yacht 'BRAEMAR/MSZJ' and was a regular customer of Portishead, especially on radiotelex.

The LP sold quite well (especially in Germany, where Mike has a strong and loyal fan base), and many of us at GKA were eager recipients of free copies of th LP when it was issued. It was briefly available on CD, but now long-deleted, and can only now be found on the German import CD 'THE VERY BEST OF MIKE BATT' (Sony Music 469148-2). Let me know if you require a copy, I may be able to help.

PORTISHEAD RADIO (MIKE BATT, 1980)

Refrain:

Portishead Radio, Portishead Radio, Get me my girl on the line.

Portishead Radio, Portishead Radio, I'm having to wait a long time.

Yankee Romeo Sierra Tango, Yankee Romeo Sierra Tango.

Golf Hotel to Foxtrot Lima Sierra, Golf Hotel to Foxtrot Lima Sierra.

Portishead, this is Mike Sierra Zulu Juliet, I've been trying hard but I can't get through.

Portishead, I am running out of channels on the set, If you have a heart I appeal to you.

[Refrain]

Yankee Romeo Sierra Tango, Yankee Romeo Sierra Tango.

Golf Hotel to Foxtrot Lima Sierra, Golf Hotel to Foxtrot Lima Sierra.

Portishead, I don't think you've even heard a word I've said, I don't think you've heard anything at all.

Portishead, when I try to tune to you, the line is dead, Am I beating my head against a wall?

[Refrain]

Whisky Papa, Whisky Papa, Papa Quebec, Whisky Papa, Whisky Papa, Papa Quebec.

I'm rolling with a mistral wind, That blows me home too slowly.

I'm waiting for an answer...

[Refrain]
